Legacy
Minneapolis MN
Situated on the 9th floor of a 17-story landmark in Downtown Minneapolis’s historic Mill District, this comprehensive condo renovation transforms a traditional three-bedroom layout into a sophisticated, light-filled urban sanctuary. The design pivots on the intentional removal of a third bedroom to dissolve interior barriers, creating a seamless, expansive "Great Room" that prioritizes family connectivity and panoramic engagement with the city.

The primary architectural goal was to celebrate the unit’s unique vantage point. By reconfiguring the floor plan, the design maximizes an unobstructed visual axis toward the University of Minnesota campus and the iconic Mississippi River bridges.

  • Social Connectivity: The kitchen, once isolated, now serves as the anchor of the home. The transition from the culinary space to the living area is fluid, designed specifically to foster family gatherings within a high-volume, open-concept environment.
  • Daylighting: Every design choice—from the reflective white cabinetry to the strategically placed mirrors—was made to pull natural light deep into the floor plate, ensuring the unit feels airy and vibrant throughout the day.
  • Modern Minimalism: A disciplined palette of cool blues, crisp whites, and warm wood tones provides a neutral backdrop that allows the urban skyline to remain the focal point.

Through the strategic removal of structural partitions and a refined material selection, this renovation successfully transitions the unit from a compartmentalized dwelling into a cohesive, modern residence. It balances the high-energy aesthetic of downtown living with the functional warmth required for a family-focused home.
